HEAVY HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT

M.T. Laney Co. Inc. is an established successful construction firm located in Eldersburg, MD.  We are searching for an experienced, committed, career-minded Heavy Highway Superintendent to be part of our growing team to work in the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan area.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who is highly motivated with a strong work ethic and desires to be part of a skilled construction team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and coordinates the work of multiple crews, including sub-contractors, as necessary.
  • Ensure project profitability.
  • Ensures employee safety and good morale by consistent application of all HR, safety, and environmental policies while visiting job sites on a regular basis.
  • Work cooperatively with Owners, Foreman, Customers, and Project Managers.
  • Communicate approved work schedules, overtime, other relevant company information, etc. as authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Monitor and maintain the orderliness of the job site, including compliance with all M.T. Laney and customer safety rules/practices.
  • Maintain regular and open communication with Project Management Team.
  • Maintain and forecast project needed materials accordingly
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • General computer knowledge required.       
  • Review contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints and contract documents and effectively communicate the contents
  • Comply with municipality requirements, specifications, safety standards. and company policies
  • Inquiries about mobilization and lead times for subcontractors and materials
  • Calculate job progress, risks. and time necessary to perform tasks
  • Assist Project Manager in the creation of and updates to the project schedule
  • Monitor quality of all work self-performed or subcontracted
  • Document as-built conditions on a record set of as-built drawings as changes occur
  • Remediation of all non-conforming work, whether self-performed or subcontracted.
  • Communicate with Project Manager, Owner, Subcontractor, employees, inspectors, and suppliers
  • Coordinate project site set-up (fencing, signage, trailers, etc.)
  • Good Driving Record

 

SALARY/HOURLY EXEMPTION:

  • Full-Time, Exempt Position
  • Salary based on knowledge, experience, and education

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that can include extreme cold and heat
  • The work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required

WORKING HOURS/EXPECTATIONS:

  • Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week, including weekend assignments as required

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch on all different types of terrain.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and standing.
  • The employee is also regularly required to talk, walk, hear, smell and have use of hands
  • The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 75 pounds on occasions
  • Drive and sit for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical
  • Must be pre-screening including a Drug Screen

EDUCATION:

  • High school or equivalent is required

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Driver License
  • HMA Certification preferred           
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred
  • CPR training preferred

 

NON-ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with Heavy Jobs software is a plus

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 5 years of Paving experience
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience
