In this role, you will work with the Sr. Estimator on cost estimates and bid proposals focusing on public/private paving and excavation. Assist in the bid process, including mass excavation, grading, and paving. The individual will assist in project estimating & pre-construction.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
We're looking for a Jr. Estimator to join our team and contribute to the success of our construction projects out of our Eldersburg, MD office. In this role, you will work with the Sr. Estimator to evaluate project plans, analyze data, and prepare detailed cost estimates. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and a basic understanding of construction processes and materials. TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Must be familiar with reading and understanding civil drawings, including grading, utilities, erosion and sediment controls, and other work performed by site contractors.
- Must be familiar with the construction industry with an emphasis on Roadwork, Earthwork, Site Utilities & Storm Water Management.
- Conduct take-offs, evaluate specifications, evaluate past performance, source subcontractor bids, develop preliminary project schedules, and generate accurate, thorough, and competitive bids.
- Review project plans, specifications, and site conditions to develop a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.
- Assist Sr. Estimator in preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and other project-related expenses.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions to enhance project profitability.
- Work closely with team members to ensure cost estimates align with project goals and client expectations.
- Develop competitive bid proposals and actively participate in bid review processes.
- Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing information and build strong industry relationships.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process, comparing actual costs to estimates and making necessary adjustments.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and construction methods to continuously improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in civil construction estimating preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
